Things to avoid…

Richmond Vet Clinic

EASTER TIME IS APPROACHING! This is such a fun time for us, as we get to eat lots of chocolates and have a lovely long weekend full of good food and good times. But…. There are treats at easter time which are very dangerous for our furry friends. Please keep these goodies away from your animals:

  • CHOCOLATE – toxic due to the theobromine and caffeine content. The more you eat, the more damage (and it’s not about weight gain). Avoid this
  • Easter lillies (and lillies in general). These are extremely toxic to cats. They cause life threatening kidney failure. If your cat mouths or ingests these, you need to contact the vet immediately
  • Grapes, raisins and sultanas – can cause lethargy, vomiting and depression in dogs.
  • Macadamia nuts: causes muscle weakness and paralysis
  • Cooked bones: these can splinter and puncture the digestive tract, or get stuck along the way.
