Puppy Preschool

Bringing on a puppy is an absolute joy, but we know how hard it can be. From toileting accidents to little shark teeth, it can be more than you bargained for. Let us help you navigate the waters of being a new puppy guardian. At Richmond Vet, Puppy Preschool is run by Taylor’d Training.

Led by a certified behaviour professional dedicated to delivering ethical, impactful, and stress-free dog training services (for the dogs and the humans!) Tailored to address the unique requirements of every puppy and their family, our Puppy Programs prioritise communication, trust, and the application of scientifically backed methods. Our goal is to assist you in providing your puppy with an optimal foundation for life, ensuring they grow up to be resilient, upstanding members of doggy society.

What is fear-free training?
Taylor’d Training practices and teaches fear-free, positive reinforcement training methods – all services provided by Taylor’d Training are with a qualified and experienced fear-free trainer.
This means we do not use harsh verbal or physical corrections or equipment.
Positive reinforcement training is based on the science of animal learning and how to utilise their main cognitive functions (e.g. learning, thinking, reasoning, remembering, problem-solving, decision-making, attention, etc.) to change or establish their emotional responses and/or reactions. The best part – it builds the human-animal bond.

Why go to puppy school?
Early training and appropriate socialisation are crucial for every dog’s development. Not only does it teach them valuable life skills and how to cope, but it also helps you form a closer bond with your new canine friend. Taylor’d Training’s Puppy School programs will help your pup on its
way to growing into a happy, resilient and confident dog.
In both of our puppy group classes, we go over a vast variety of foundation skills and training which includes:
● How to correctly utilise socialisation (it’s not just meeting everyone constantly!)
● Doggy body language – how dogs learn and communicate
● What is normal canine behaviour and what might not be
● How to redirect or reshape undesirable behaviour
● Puppy potty-training
● Developing confidence with life experiences (including stress-free vet/grooming visits!)
● Enrichment and how and why we use it
● Plus lots more!

When can my puppy join class?
The earlier the better! You just need your puppy to have their first round of vaccinations prior to commencing practical class.

We have two classes available:

Pint-Sized Paws – Puppy Social Group 8-14 weeks old
A program focused on positive socialisation, exposure, and development on top of starting the
building blocks for those crucial foundation skills, to set puppies up to grow into resilient adult
dogs!
The Pint-Sized Paws program is $190 for the entire course consisting of:
– 4 x 50-minute practical classes
– Canine Theory orientation – delivered digitally prior to practical classes
– Guarantee your class is run by a force-free qualified behaviour trainer
– Access to a private group forum
– Weekly digital content to bolster and expand on in-class content

Good Dog 101 – Puppy Foundation Class 14-24 weeks old
Good Dog 101 dives into the fundamentals of a well-rounded pup, not only teaching foundation skills but also learning how to advance and generalise them for the real world! We also dive into setting the humans up for success when the juvenile developmental stage comes knocking!
While Good Dog 101 is a continuation of our Pint-Sized Paws program, it is not a prerequisite to complete one to attend the next.
The Good Dog 101 program is $220 for the entire course consisting of:
– 4 x 60-minute practical classes
– Canine Theory orientation – delivered digitally before practical classes
– Guarantee your class is run by a force-free qualified behaviour trainer
– Access to a private group forum
– Weekly digital content to bolster and expand on in-class content

Each program is capped at 4-6 puppies per group to ensure everyone gets the most out of the program, so spots are limited, and booking is essential!
